William Mcdermott

William B. McDermott, 56, of Locust Avenue Amsterdam, NY passed away Friday morning March 2, 2012 at his residence.

Born in Amsterdam, NY; on August 6, 1955, he is a son of Thomas F. and June M. Fisher McDermott.

Billy received his education at St. Mary’s Institute and Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam, NY.

He was last employed as a maintenance and assistant home improvement repairman.

Billy was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

Billy is survived by his two daughters , Sarah Jade McDermott of Amsterdam, NY; and Erin Connelly of Orlando, FL; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Sarr of West Palm Beach, FL; his parents of Amsterdam, one sister, Kathleen Mary Kolodziej (Jerry) of Tribes Hill, NY; four brothers, T. Kevin McDermott (Susan) of Amsterdam, NY, Joseph F. McDermott (Adele) of Arlington, VA; Patrick M. McDermott (Anne) of Amsterdam, NY; and Robert C. McDermott (Deborah) of Guilderland, NY. Four grandchildren, Gianna King, Aidan, Madison and Emma Leigh Connelly Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Billy was predeceased by his sister, Carol Ann McDermott Minch on January 26, 2001.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main, Amsterdam, NY.

Interment will be at St Mary’s Cemetery Fort Johnson, NY.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Billy’s name may be made to the McDermott Family Benefit Fund , which can be deposited at any SEFCU Bank Branch (5003 State Highway 30 Amsterdam, NY 12010) or donations may be made at the Riley Mortuary, which will be used to defray funeral expenses and to contribute toward his grandchildren's education.
