Valentine M. Kerbelis

Valentine M. Kerbelis, of Van Dyke Avenue, Amsterdam, NY passed away at home March 11, 2021.

Born in Amsterdam on January 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Michael and Louise Matulaitis Kerbelis.

He graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1943 and also attended the University of Rochester.

Val was inducted into the United States Army at Fort Dix, NJ. He attended Officers Training School at Fort Sill, OK, where he was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant. He subsequently attended Officers Mule Pack Training School at Fort Riley, Kansas and was deployed to the Philippine Islands and later to Japan.

After being honorably discharged, he joined his father in the insurance and real estate business and later on became president of Kerbelis & Sons Insurance & Travel Agency.

Val was a parishioner and communicant of St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church, and served for many years on St. Casimir’s Church committees as an usher and commentator, now merged with St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam

Val was a past member for 40 years with the Amsterdam Benevolent Order of Elks, New York State and National Professional Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), Capital District Bon-Vivants, Amsterdam Little Symphony as a violinist, Charter member and first President of the Knights of Lithuania (Amsterdam Chapter).

Married on May 22, 1949, he is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa Alisauski and two daughters, Patricia E. Arnold (Jerry) of Hagaman, NY and Cynthia J. Jones (Lyndon) of Galway, NY. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.

Val was also predeceased by a sister, Mirga Bablin and brother, Michael D. Kerbelis.

He was a loving husband and father and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Val was an avid golfer and loved to travel.

There are no calling hours.

Due to the current Covid situation, Funeral services will be private for immediate family. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date and time to be announced.

Interment will follow at St. Casimir’s Cemetery in Amsterdam.

Memorial gifts in Val’s name may be made to a charity of ones choice.
