Town of Florida--Thomas Rusnica, 92 of Pattersonville, NY; passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
Born in Burtonsville, NY; on February 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Wincenty and Aniela Skala Rusnica. Tom attended school in Braman Corners until he began working with the family farm.
Tom was the proud owner and operator of his own family dairy farm for over 40 years, before retiring in 1996.
Tom was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Mets games, playing cards, visiting casinos and the Saratoga Race Track; tending his amazing garden with the best tomatoes that he loved to share with folks and eating ice cream! He was forever a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, many years ago his parents moved to this area from Pittsburgh, PA; after the coal mines there closed. He was an avid Amsterdam Rams football and Marching Rams Band supporter, attending Friday night games and traveling to away games.
Tom was predeceased in death by his wife of 67 years, Sophie Rusnica just nine months ago. He was also predeceased by nine siblings, Ted, John, Mike, Leo, Louie, Paul, Pauline, Helen and Ann along with several nieces and nephews and several of his “OTB Buddies” who he enjoyed laughing and joking with.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas M. Rusnica, William (Rosanne) Rusnica and Jeffrey (Joanne) Rusnica, his two daughters, Joyce (Wayne) Neznek and Lisa Rusnica, seven grandsons, Brian, Gregory, Andrew, Robert, Jason, Casey and Kevin and the “little ones” as he called them, his great - grandchildren, Otto, Aniela and Zoey, who brought him huge smiles.
Tom’s family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Amanda, Julie, Suzanne and everyone at Community Hospice, they are truly angels.
Tom’s family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00 to 11:00 on Saturday morning, July 24, 2021 at Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 with Rev O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Interment will follow at St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Tom’s name may be made to Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department, 6252 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
