Thomas J. Quandt, 88, formerly of Market Street, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Teresian House in Albany, NY.
Born in Amsterdam on November 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Frances (Freightenburg) Quandt, Sr.
He graduated from St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam.
Tom was a respected businessman and served as executive officer and Secretary-Treasurer of Quandt’s Foodservice Distributors in Amsterdam until his retirement. He began his career in the family grocery market and bakery along with his father and brother, Joe, and helped successfully evolve it into the food distribution business.
Tom was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran after having served in Japan post World War II.
Tom was a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s churches in Amsterdam. He was a member of the B.P.O. E. Lodge 101 in Amsterdam.
Tom was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth “Betty”(Harrington) Quandt of Niskayuna, three sons, Thomas (Mary) Quandt of Saratoga Springs, William (Brooke) Quandt of Scotia, and Mark (Christine) Quandt of Schoharie, two daughters, Patricia Brown and Kathleen Quandt both of Albany, one brother, Robert (Judith) Quandt of Lake George, one sister, Theresa Lozier of Ballston Lake,eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Tom was also predeceased by a brother Joseph Quandt, Jr., and a son-in-law, Joseph Brown.
Funeral service will be held Monday morning at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:15 A.M. by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are Monday from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. prior to the funeral services.
