Theresa Scialabba, 91, of Amsterdam, NY, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Marco Island, FL, where she enjoyed spending her winters. Born on September 27, 1932, in Reggio, Calabria, Italy, to Vittoria Oppedisano Coluccio and Frank Coluccio, Theresa immigrated to the United States at the age of 7 and grew up in Albany, NY, attending school at St. Vincent DePaul.
In 1950, she married Herbert Scialabba at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Albany, NY. Theresa and Herb resided in White Hall, NY, before settling in Amsterdam, NY, where they resided for nearly 70 years. Both Theresa and Herb were actively engaged in the community, and left a legacy on the city they called home. Theresa was a beloved waitress for many years at Tuman’s Restaurant. Her genuine hospitality touched the hearts of many and left a lasting impression on all the patrons who were fortunate to experience her kindness.
A devout member of her church, Theresa served with devotion on the Altar Rosary Society and as a Eucharistic Minister. She remained an active participant and the record keeper of the church bocce league well into her late 80’s. When not in Church or preparing delicious meals, Theresa dedicated herself to her children's activities, attending all of their sporting events, coaching Cinderella Softball and serving as the President of the PTA at her children’s school.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Herb of 63 years in 2013, her mother Vittoria Coluccio, father Frank Coluccio, and brother Joseph Coluccio. Surviving her are her four children: Ernest Scialabba (Michele) of Manchester, VT; Victoria Saffin (Ron) of Marco Island, FL; Samuel Scialabba (Ellen) of Sarasota, FL; and MaryBeth Jermyn (Houssam) of Portsmouth, NH, and Bluffton, SC. Grandchildren Chelsea Rodriguez (Jason) of Ruskin, FL; Anthony Scialabba (Alzebeth) of Clayton, NC; and Russ Dickson (Christina) of Gloversville, NY. Theresa is also survived by her great-grandchild Elia Scialabba; sister Elizabeth Rourke (Troy, NY); sister-in-law Rosemary Stancampiano (Rochester, NY); and several nieces and nephews.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Grace & Harry Bylebyl, Hilda Quill & Michele Yeager for their love, care, and compassion.
