Susan M. Newell

Susan M. Newell, 68, of Romeyn Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away at home on October 3, 2022.

Born in Amsterdam on August 5, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Dolores (Opalka) Piorkowski.

Susan graduated from Bishop Scully High School in 1972 and received a Bachelor of Arts from The College of St. Rose, Albany, NY and a Master of Business Administration in Accounting from Union College, Schenectady, NY.

Prior to retiring in 2018, she enjoyed a long career during which she worked for the State of New York in Albany and Price Chopper and the Golub Corporation in Schenectady.

There were many loves in Susan’s life including: her son, beagles, cooking, Italian cuisine and wines, her extended family, and many, many coworkers and friends.

Susan is survived by her son Colin Newell (Megan Benton) of Canajoharie, NY; brother Frank J. Piorkowski (Marie King) of Livonia, MI; aunt, Dorothy Kwiaitkowski of Amsterdam, nieces, nephews. cousins and her former husband John Newell of Tribes Hill, NY.

In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her brother Robert and sisters; Barbara, Elizabeth and Jeanette.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary. Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. ,officiating.

Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.

Calling hours are Friday, October 28, 2022 from 300 to 6:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary
