Robert D. Morin, 81, former City of Amsterdam Third ward Alderman, Deputy Mayor and a former Montgomery County Supervisor, passed away Wednesday evening June 24, 2015 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.
Born in Tupper Lake, NY; on November 21 1933, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Leona Dugas Morin.
Bob received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Bob was employed as a purchaser for the State of New York Department of Civil Service and for many years at A&P Supermarkets and was a former co-owner of Shelly’s Market in Amsterdam.
Bob was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1953 to 1955
Bob was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He was also a member of the Irish American Club.
His wife, Janet Kline Morin to whom he was married for 54 years, passed away October 27, 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah LaPolt (Andy) of Broadalbin, NY and Susan A. Huniford (Thomas) of Pennellville, NY; two sons, Leon Morin (Missy) of Park City, Utah and Robert W. Morin (Jaime) of Broadalbin, two brothers, Joseph and Richard Morin, two sisters, Fredolyn Cherico and Kayleen Guadagno all of Amsterdam, thirteen grandchildren, Danielle, Kerry and Olivia McMullen, Andrew, Jeremy and Tucker LaPolt, Parker, Colin and Blake Morin, Jake and Marley Morin and Lauren and Kyle Huniford. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Bob was also predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence Morin Jr. and Wilfred Morin and a nephew, Joseph Guadagno.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are today Friday June 26 from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary.
