Robert Anthony Mancini

Robert Anthony Mancini, 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Born and raised in Amsterdam, NY, he was the youngest child of the late Pasquale and Marianne Campagnano Mancini.

Bob was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School, class of 1955. Later that year, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably for three years with stations at Ft. Dix, NJ, and in Germany. Following his military service, Bob began a 35-year career with the Montgomery County engineering department, eventually continuing his work with the Village of Ballston Spa until retirement.

Bob lived a full and active life. He was a well-known presence at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course, where he found great pleasure playing golf with friends. An enthusiastic card player, he especially enjoyed the challenge and camaraderie of a good game of pinochle. During the winters, Bob loved traveling to Florida and then to California to visit his sisters, always accompanied by his devoted longtime companion, Nancy Alteri. Above all, he deeply valued the time he spent with his family and friends, who brought him immense joy.

Bob was married to Geraldine Kowalski, with whom he shared two sons. Jeffrey and Mark. Later he married Janet Thomas, and together they had three sons, John Joseph and Robert until her passing in 2003.

He is survived by his five sons: Jeffrey (Elizabeth), Mark (Jolynn), John (Courtney). Joseph (Lisa), and Robert (Krystin); his sisters, Joanne (Pasquale) Basilio and Delores (Robert) Caputo; grandchildren Jesica (Kevin) Tomlinson, Taylor (Steven) Backus, Jack Spencer, Joseph, Sophia, Marguerite, Dylan and Rylee Mancini; great granddaughter, Brynn Backus; his beloved companion Nancy Alteri; sister-in-law Marcia Thomas; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his siblings Louise Mancini Salmon, Anthony, Adam, Herman, MIchael and Alfred Mancini.

Bob’s warmth, humor and dedication to family and friends will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
