ROBERT'S OBITUARY

U.S. Veteran

Town of Mayfield (Fulton County): Robert James “Bob” Bond, 75 of Mayfield passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family at his home on Tuesday, November 28th after a long battle with cancer.

Bob was born in Amsterdam on September 5th 1948, a son to Duncan and Florence (McMahon) Bond. He grew up in the town of Florida with his brother John and graduated from Amsterdam High School. After high school, Bob served his country enlisting in the US Army. He went for training at Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Dix, and then fought overseas during the Vietnam War in 1968 & 1969.

Upon returning from war, he started work at General Electric in Schenectady as a welder. He was an exceptional welder and did many specialty welding jobs there. He worked there for 35 years finally retiring as a winder. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and the American Legion post #337 in Broadalbin.

Bob was an avid outdoors man. He was a former member of the Mahogany Ridge Hunting Camp. The highlight of his year was hunting season. Many days were spent hunting with family in the town of Florida where he grew up.

Survivors include his mother, Florence Bond of Amsterdam, his children, Shawn (Lynn) Bond of Broadalbin, NY and Bobbi Jo (Travis) Stock of Saranac, NY, his grandsons, Alexander and Stuart also several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Duncan, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, John.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 22nd from 11-12:30 PM followed by a memorial service at Riley Mortuary (110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010).
