Robert E. Thackrah

Robert E. Thackrah, “ Bobby T.”, 93, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Thurlow and Ethel Borst Thackrah.

Bob received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School 1947.

Bob was an honorably discharged United States Air Force veteran serving from 1948 to 1952. He subsequently joined the Air National Guard 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air Force Base in Scotia, NY for 27 years from where he retired as an Electronic Technician.

Bob was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, several city bowling leagues in which he rolled a 300 game at Windmill Lanes and the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Joan Marie Fitzgerald Thackrah on February 6, 2004.

Bob is survived by his son, James “Jet” Thackrah of Amsterdam, NY; four daughters, (Donna) Lynne Mattice (Dave) of Amsterdam, NY; Barbara Thackrah, Phyllis Thackrah (Jeanann) all of the state of Arizona and Virginia “Ginny” Berkery (Pete) of Albany, NY; six grandchildren, Brittany Thackrah and Shawna Garcia, Michelle Ferolie and Marissa O’Brien and Ashley and Hanna Gavel; six great grandchildren and one nephew.

He was also predeceased by one sister, Beverly Wainwright, two nephews and a long time companion Joan Stanton.

Calling hours will be held at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Interment and committal services with military honors will take place Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Cemetery in North Creek, NY.
