Phyllis J. Liggero, 95, formerly of DeWitt St., and Florida Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, and Lakeview Road, Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 15, 2016 at Saratoga Center in Ballston Spa, NY.
Born August 11, 1921 in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late Enrico and Filomena Constantino.
Phyllis received her education and graduated from Draper High School in Schenectady, NY in 1939.
Phyllis was well known as the School Matron at Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam from 1970 to 1985. She was also a homemaker, waitress and worked at Coleco Industries.
Phyllis was a former parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Association, Saint Francis Society and a past president of the fifth ward Parent Teachers Association. She was awarded a P.T.A. life membership for her outstanding contributions to the youth of the community.
Phyllis was well known for her creative cooking and baking.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Samuel F. Liggero on January 24, 2002. She is survived by two sons, Samuel (Victoria) Liggero of Wellesley, MA, and Tino Liggero of Saratoga Springs, NY, three granddaughters, Rebecca Liggero of London England, Jessica Liggero of Wellesley, MA. and Kelli Liggero of Columbia, GA. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Phyllis was also predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Al Constantino and one sister Julia Messercola.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Tuesday morning, December 20, 2016 at 11:15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
