PETER JOSEPH BRUSOE


A lifelong resident of the Town of Florida died Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Albany Medical Center after a fall that caused a traumatic brain injury.


Peter was born May 21, 1952 to the late Kennard and Stella Brusoe.


He attended St. Joseph’s School and Bishop Scully High School. Peter graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Science Education. He also earned 2 Masters from the University at Albany: Curriculum Planning and Development; School Administration.


Peter loved teaching. He taught for 43 years. Peter started his teaching career in Green Island New York and then took a 6 year sabbatical to assist his father in running the family dairy farm. He returned to teaching at St. Mary’s Institute. He retired in June 2022 after 31 years with Albany City School District.


Peter was predeceased by his siblings Kennard, Jr., Elaine, Annie and his sister-in-law Louise Nash.


On July 9 ,1977 Peter married the love of his life, Mary. In addition to Mary he is survived by their children: Maryn, Peter William, Marcy and Reyers Phillip; granddaughter Maddie Belling; his in-laws: Bill and Kathy Reyers, Judy and Bob Spires, Bob and Johanna Reyers, David Nash and Maria Brusoe; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.


He was an active volunteer with his childrens’ interests, as a coach, band parent, CCD teacher, swim timer and any way in which he could be helpful.


Pete was a lifelong Yankees fan. He loved attending Opening Day every year. He especially enjoyed attending their Spring Training this Spring.


For the past 20 years Peter has been active in Boy Scouting. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and was made a Vigil Honor Member of Onterorous Lodge 402. Peter reveled in the 14 summers he spent as Nature Lodge Director at BSA Henderson Scout Reservation, Maryland, NY. Sadly, this abruptly came to a halt with the Covid Pandemic and the Council ultimately deciding to sell the camp.


Peter loved science and nature, especially collecting rocks and fossils. He especially enjoyed a summer in The Badlands on a dinosaur dig with Jack Horner.


He enjoyed power tools and working with wood, most recently learning carving with NE Woodworkers at the Inman Center.


An avid reader, his most recent passion being the Civil War which included several trips to Gettysburg.


Calling hours will be Sunday, June 11 at the old Florida Town Hall from 4 to 7 p.m.


A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1735 Alexander Road, Delanson NY; Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
