Nicholas R. Smith

Nicholas R. Smith, 69, of Amsterdam, NY; died peacefully on April 30th, 2022 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Born in Amsterdam on April 28, 1953, he was the son of the late Walter R. and Eleanor T. Lajeunesse Smith.

Nick attended St. Mary’s Institute and was a 1971 graduate of Bishop Scully High School.

He worked as a machinist at Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam for many years.

Nick is survived by his sister and brother in law, Kathleen and Olin Bassett, his nephew, Robert Smith (Aubrey King), great nephew Ian Robert Smith, niece, Lynn (Stephen) Scribner, great nieces, Chelsea Walter and Brooke Lenore Scribner.

In addition to his parents, Nick was predeceased by a brother, Walter A. (Smitty) Smith in 1975 and a sister, Dhea L, Smith in 1985.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 11:00 AM at St Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
