Michael G. “Smitty” Smith, 67, of the Town of Broadalbin, NY passed away peacefully at home on the morning of August 7, 2023.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 14, 1956, he was the son of the late S. Francis and Caroline Rohling Smith.
Smitty received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Smitty retired in 2021 from his concrete pumping business, MS Concrete Pumping and previously worked for other concrete pumping companies. In his younger years, he was the owner of Mick’s Auto Repair.
Smitty was a member of the Bigelow Weavers Club. He enjoyed playing in pool leagues, playing cards with his friends, he enjoyed visiting Saratoga Race Track each summer and was an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his parents, Smitty was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Philip Smith.
Smitty is survived by his companion of nearly 10 years, Marjorie Schulz and her children, Matthew, Daniel (Monica) and Kelsey Schulz, three brothers, William (Barbara) Smith, Richard (Kathleen ) Smith all of Fort Johnson, NY and Thomas Smith of Charleston, NY. two sisters, Diane Peck of Perth, NY and Linda Luzinas of Amsterdam, NY. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday August 12, 2023 from 11:00 am. to 1:00 pm.at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Cremation was held at Park View Crematory in Schenectady, NY
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Sheridan and the staff of Palliative Care at St. Mary’s Hospital and to Mountain Valley Hospice where memorial gifts in Smitty’s name may be sent to 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078
