Mary Eileen McGuire, 96, formerly of State Highway 30, Amsterdam, New York, passed away Saturday afternoon February 22, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, New York.
Born in Fonda, New York on January 27, 1918, she was the daughter of the late George and Julia Mullins Martin.
Mary Eileen was a graduate of Fonda High School, Class of 1936 and the Amsterdam school of Commerce.
She was employed as a secretary to the Principal at Fonda High School. secretary at U.S. Soil Conservation Services, Memorial Hospital, Fulton Montgomery Community College and retired as secretary to the Principal after 10 years at Perth Central School.
Mary Eileen was a parishioner and communicant of St. Stephens Church in Hagaman, New York. Her first husband, Andrew O. Pelneau to whom she married on January 7, 1943 passed away February 20, 1949. Subsequently her second husband, John M. “Mick” McGuire to whom she married October 25, 1952, passed away May 27, 2008.
Mary Eileen is survived by one son James G. Pelneau (Angela) of Amsterdam, New York, one daughter, Mary E. Condon, Johnstown, New York, four grandchildren, Katie Corrie (Stephen), Caryn Lynam (Stephen), Robert Close (Lindsay) and James A. Pelneau and his fiancé (Tia McDonough), eight great grandchildren, Sam, Julia and Aidan Corrie, Casey, Paxton, Asher and Witten Close and Mary Kathryn Lynam.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11:00 at St. Stephen’s Church, Pawling Street, Hagaman, New York.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, New York.
There are no calling hours.
