Cranesville - Mary Elizabeth Kruger, 73, passed away at her home on January 22,
2022.
Mary was born on May 19, 1948 in Amsterdam, NY to the late William and
Eileen Whelly.
Mary Whelly graduated from St. Mary's Institutes Class of 1966
and entered St. Mary's Nursing School, graduating in 1969.
As a Registered Nurse she worked at St. Mary's Hospital and later at Ellis Hospital where she became a
Critical Care ICU Nurse. She worked as a nurse throughout the area until her
retirement.
Mary is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gary Kruger, her loving son, Michael
“DJ Mike" Garrasi, her loving daughter, Stephanie Kruger also mother of Mary's
grandchildren, Frank & Jason, brothers, William Whelly, and James Whelly, sister,
Julie Whelly, and her cat, Lucky Louie.
Mary loved the outdoors and its beauty which led to her passion of photography,
camping, hiking, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking and motorcycle day tripping.
Her fondest childhood outdoor activity was being accompanied by her father, an avid
golfer, to the Amsterdam Muni Golf Course where she learned how to ski. She
continued to enjoy skiing throughout her entire adult life with friends and family.
She became a member of The National Ski Patrol.
Where there was music, Mary would always scramble if her schedule allowed her
to be there: Riverlink Park, Schoharie Crossing, the Mabee Farm, Freedom Park,
the Fonda Fair, Country Fest, and the Irish Fest. From cheesy to mega headliners,
she loved them all.
The family wishes to sincerely thank The Community Hospice staff and Mary's
core group of friends and relatives for their kind, generous support, always being
there in sickness and in health.
There will be no viewing hours and the family will honor her wishes at a future
date.
Any contributions can be made to The Community Hospice-Mary's compassionate
skilled care givers.
