Marilyn J. Birklund, 88, of South Country Ridge Drive, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY.
Born on January 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Gervaise G. and Margaret Black Moehringer.
Marilyn received her education in the Broadalbin Central School and graduated from St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam. She also received her Master’s in Elementary Education from the College of St. Rose and Master’s in Guidance in Pupil Services from the University of Albany. She did her undergraduate studies at the College of New Rochelle.
Marilyn worked as a teacher and guidance councilor in the Greater Amsterdam School District for many years until her retirement.
Marilyn was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
She was a member of the Silver Bay Beach and Boat Club in North Broadalbin, NY; where she spent summers all of her life.
In 1972 she was married to Carl H. Birklund. He passed away 2000. Marilyn is survived by one son, David G. Hennessey (Barbara) of Nassau, NY; two daughters, Lynn K. Hennessey of Memphis, TN., and Nancy A Warnock (Tim) of Queensbury, NY. Two grandchildren, Peter and Katherine Warnock, two step grandchildren, Corey Wessels and Jennifer Sacci, and four step great grandchildren, Brianna, Mallory, Ella and Alle. Several cousins also survive.
Cremation was held at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady, NY.
Inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
It was Marilyn’s request that no calling hours or funeral services are held at this time.
A memorial service will be held at a later time and date.
Memorial gifts in Marilyn’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
