Maria B. Dufresne, 82, of Coolidge Road, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Monday evening October 1, 2012 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam on October 23, 1929, she was a daughter of the Honorable Judge Donald Boyle and his wife Mary Collins Boyle.
Maria received her education at St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam. She graduated from the College of St. Rose with an undergraduate degree in education and went on to obtain her master’s degree in education from SUNY at Oneonta Teachers College.
Maria was employed as a school teacher at Perth Central School for more than thirty years.
Maria was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
She was a member of The College of St. Rose Alumni Association and the NYS United Teacher’s Association.
Maria is survived by her husband, Paul Dufresne, to whom she was married on April, 11, 1955; three sons, Paul Dufresne (Anne) of Centreville, VA; James Dufresne of Troy, NY and Tom Dufresne (Eby) of Cincinnati, OH. Two daughters, Maria Wnek (Gary) of Cleveland, OH and Kathleen Dufresne of Schenectady, NY; Two sisters, Elizabeth Miller of Bolton, MA and Catherine Smith of Wellfleet, MA. Seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning October 5, 2012 at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4th at the Riley Mortuary
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Maria’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborn Road, Albany, NY 12211-1875.
