Marguerite B. “Marge” Traskas (Trzaskos) R.N., 93, of Van Derveer Street, Amsterdam, New York passed away Saturday morning September 20, 2914 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York with her loving family by her side.
Born in Amsterdam, New York on May 20, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Katherine Roman Trzaskos.
Marguerite was a lifelong resident. She attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Amsterdam City Hospital of Nursing. She also attended Syracuse University and Russell Sage College to pursue her nursing studies.
Her professional career was spent in various places of nursing. Before entering the Public Health Field she was assistant Director of Nursing at the Amsterdam City Hospital. In 1977 she retired from the Schenectady City School District, where she was employed as a School Nurse – Teacher.
Marguerite was a parishioner and communicant of the former Church of Saint John the Baptist and most recently of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
She was also a member of the Amsterdam City Hospital Alumnae, Schenectady County Retired Teachers Association and the Knights of the Militia Immaculate.
Marguerite is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Clara) Snyder of Loudonville, New York, and Mrs. Francis (Marion) Howlan of Amsterdam, New York. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews also survive.
Three brothers, Frank, Celian, her infant brother, John, and three sisters, Ann Barzak, Dorothy Traskas (Trzaskos) and Bernadine Corrigan predeceased Marguerite.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, New York followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment will be at Saint John’s Cemetery, Amsterdam, New York.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Marguerite s name may be made to Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, Alabama 35210-9948 or to a charity of one’s choice.
