Margaret Ann Cosentino, 88, of Tremont Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Wednesday afternoon July 17, 2019 at home.
Born in Amsterdam on September 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Riley Dufresne.
Margaret graduated from St. Mary’s Institute in 1948, Fulton Montgomery Community College with an A.A. degree in 1968, SUNY- Albany with a B.A. in English in 1970, and continued with graduate courses in secondary education from the College of St. Rose and Russell Sage.
She was a writing consultant for the New York State Department of Education and was an English Teacher, grades 6 through 9, for over twenty years in the Fonda- Fultonville Central School District.
Margaret loved her career as a teacher and mentoring to her many students throughout her twenty plus years of teaching.
She was vice-president of the Teachers Union at Fonda-Fultonville, secretary of the Mount Carmel Social Club.
She was also member of St. Mary’s Alumni Association, and SUNY- Albany Alumni Association.
Margaret loved to travel, and spent many winters in Siesta Key, Florida.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Thomas M. Cosentino who she married October 15, 1950, one daughter, Janice Ellen Cosentino of Saratoga Springs, NY; one son Thomas M. Cosentino Jr. of Amsterdam, four sisters, Jean Colistra, Rita McClary, Juliann Gumuka (Jack) and Kathryn Andrews, three grandchildren, Liz Elizabeth Virella, Carly Moore and Matthew Cosentino, one great grandson, Sebastian Virella, one special nephew, Gordan Cantiello along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Margaret was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Liccardi and three brothers, William, Paul and David Dufresne.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Saturday July 20, 2019 at 11:15 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, New York 12010, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in Margaret’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Institute, 10 Kopernik Boulevard, or St. Mary’s Church, both Amsterdam, NY 12010.
