Louis A. Dybas Sr. 93, of Lincoln Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 peacefully at home.
Born in Amsterdam, NY; August 25, 1928, he was the son of Albert F. and Catherine Malecki Dybas.
He received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam, NY.
Lou was an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as an Engineman 2nd Class Petty Officer aboard the carrier USS Mindoro, from 1948 to 1952.
His favorite job was as a local milkman for Olbrych’s Dairy, until moving on to General Electric Company in the early 60’s from where he retired in 1992.
Lou was a longtime area bowler, Amsterdam Rookie League manager and coach and member of John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701 and Polish American Veterans in Amsterdam. He was very interested in fitness, having given up smoking at the age of 40 and beginning many years of jogging to the rock cut daily on route 5 and eventually bike riding to the Rotterdam Stewarts daily until the age of 79, when his wife passed. He continued exercising daily, putting that bike on a stationary stand, riding it daily, 30 minutes at a time, up until only 2 weeks ago.
On February 8, 1953, he was married to Betty Sinatra Dybas who predeceased Lou on October 31, 2007.
Lou is survived by two sons, Louis A. Dybas Jr. and Martin E. Dybas (Tina) of Hagaman, NY; three grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dybas of Van Nuys, CA; and daughter-in-law, Connie M. Johnson Dybas. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Lou was also predeceased by his son Stephen R. Dybas on April 19, 2018, two brothers, Matthew and Richard Dybas and three sisters, Dorothea Wyszomirski, Lottie Rogers and Jane Luksis.
Cremation was held at Park View Crematory in Schenectady.
A private graveside prayer service will be held in the spring at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Steadwell Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
Memorial gifts in Lou’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
