Laverne Turnbull

Laverne J. Turnbull, 89, of Stratton Apartments, Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Tuesday evening February 4, 2014 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Amsterdam on July, 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Edward and Charlotte Nicholas Turnbull.

Laverne received his education in the Amsterdam School system and also attended Tech High on East Main Street in Amsterdam.

Laverne retired as Maintenance Manager from Alexander Rest Home in Hagaman, NY.

Laverne was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during World War II.

He was a former member of V. F. W. Post 55 in Amsterdam.

His wife, Nina Brunson Turnbull to whom he married December 9, 1951 predeceased Laverne.

Laverne is survived by one son, David Turnbull of the state of Maine, one grandson, David Turnbull (Shelby) of the state of Virginia, two granddaughters, Tiffany Turnbull ( Mike) of Schenectady, NY and Alison Turnbull (Danny Rivera) of Amsterdam, four great grandchildren, Ashley Rivera, Brandon, Owen and Heath Grady, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Landwehr of Amsterdam.

Laverne was also predeceased by his son Dean Turnbull in 2009.
There are no calling hours or funeral services.

Interment will take place at Green Hill Cemetery in the spring.
