Larry Howington

Larry “Tex) Howington Sr., 71, formerly Langley Road, Town of Florida, NY; passed away Friday August 16, 2012 in Siguatepeque, Comayauga, Hohduras, where he was a resident for the past three years.

Born in Newton Township, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1941, he was the son of Noel and Lora Howington.

Larry was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1959 to 1965 and then from 1979 to 2001 when he retired from Vampires Company 3- 142nd CSAB Army National Guard in Latham, NY. Larry was also a Black Hawk Helicopter Crew Chief.

Larry was last employed as an assistant service manager with the Mohawk and Pattersonville service areas on the New York State Thruway.

Larry was a member of the Grand Court Order of Amaranth of New York – Saint Monica’s Court 61, Artisan Lodge No.84 F.& A.M. both of Amsterdam and the Oriental Temple in Troy, NY.

His wife, Rose Marie Taylor Howington to whom he married on February 26, 1966 passed away on October 5, 2009. Larry is survived by two sons, Larry Howington Jr of Amsterdam, NY, and Lee Howington (Jennifer) of Johnstown, NY, two daughters, Brenda Elwood of Amsterdam and Karry Howington of Harrisburg, PA., one sister Janice Taylor of Denver PA., his daughter-in-law, Shirley Combs of Amsterdam, five grandchildren, Quinn Combs, Katie Elwood, Tonia Howington, William Brender and Peter Chiara, one great grandson, Logan Elwood. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Larry was also predeceased by his son, Leonard Combs.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning September 6, 2012 at 11:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY.12010.

Interment with follow with full military honors at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the service at the Riley Mortuary.

The family request that no floral arrangements be sent to the mortuary.
