Kathryn Ann Newell, 67, of Ocala, Florida passed away on May 24, 2023 after a valiant 6 year battle with cancer.
Kathy was born on July 9, 1955 in Amsterdam, NY to Richard A. and Edith Hartnoll Tarmey. She was a 1973 graduate of Perth Central School. Following graduation she was employed by St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY from 1974 -1997. She was then employed by the office of Doctor’s Soo Lee , Ayman Morgan, and George Soryal in Amsterdam, NY until 2022.
Kathy was an active member of St. Ann’s Episcopal in Amsterdam, NY. Upon retirement , Kathy and her husband Jeff moved to Ocala, Florida where they were welcomed by Grandview Church in Dunnellon, FL. They both enjoyed spending time with their church communities.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Brian Michael and Mark Richard. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey Newell whom she married on November 29, 2004, her sister Nancy (Dennis) Heaton, niece Katie Lynn (Jordan) Dornan, nephews Zachary Richard (Rita) Heaton, Thomas Patrick Heaton, Gian Luca and Stefano Muratore. Great nieces Sadie Kathryn Dornan and Maggie Brooke Dornan, as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Kathy was a force that inspired others, she was kind and generous to all she met.. She always put herself last. She was a fighter to the end and will be missed immensely. We will all greatly miss her smile and adventuresome spirit. But now, we are grateful that she knows what it’s like to be genuinely unbound without disease, pain, or treatment.
Kathy’s family would like to give special thanks to her Amsterdam friends Dottie Burak, Susan Bruce, St Ann’s Episcopal Church community, her Florida friends Pat Nice and family, Grandview Church Community and all of her Top of the World residential friends. An added thanks to Hospice of Marion County, FL. for numerous acts of kindness shown to her during her illness and following her death.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 19, 2023 at 10am at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, 37 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either St. Ann” Episcopal Church or to Grandview Church, 12401 SW Hwy 484, Dunnellon, Fl 34432.
