June M. Cafarella

June M. Cafarella, 91, of Hillcrest Spring Apartments and formerly of Locust Avenue, passed away Wednesday March 11, 2020 at Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Amsterdam on June 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Eleanor M. Williams Caldwell.

June received her education in the Amsterdam school system and retired as an Aide from William B. Tecler Elementary School in Amsterdam.

June was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

She was a former member of the Irish American Club Ladies Auxiliary, St. Stanislaus Seniors, Inman Seniors all in Amsterdam, Perth Seniors and Sir William Johnson Seniors in Fort Johnson, NY.

June was an avid bowler in the Mixed Couples League at the former St John’s Club in Amsterdam.

June was married to Anthony J. Cafarella on December 26, 1948. He passed away February 24, 2008. June is survived by one daughter, Dianne Smitka (Todd) of Mayfield, NY; one son, Brian A. Cafarella (Johanna) of Rockport, MA; two brothers, Robert J. “Tex” Caldwell, of Amsterdam, and Michael J. Caldwell of Oswego, NY, and two grandchildren, John and Elizabeth Totzck. Nieces and nephews also survive.

June was also predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Marie Cafarella, one brother, Ralph T. Caldwell and two sisters, Rose Mary Edwards and Helen Baker.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, March 14, 2020 at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the service at the Riley Mortuary.
