Joyce A. Fisher

Mrs. Joyce A. Fisher, 83, of Amsterdam, NY died on January 10, 2025. She was born on November 6, 1941, and was the daughter of Dr. Theodore and Erma Millar Baum of Rome , NY. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and received her BA and MA Degrees from Russell Sage College, Troy, NY. She was a special education teacher for Schenectady and Albany-Schenectady-Schoharie BOCES for twenty-five years. She was also self-employed with Advisory Services, her husband’s financial planning business.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Terrence E. Fisher in Rome, NY on August 3, 1963. She is survived by her loving daughters, Kimberly A. (Phillip) Schuyler of Northville, Kristen J. (Martin) Morey of Saratoga Springs, her two wonderful grandchildren, Theodore and Karina Morey and several nieces and nephews. Her beloved, Terrence predeceased her.

Joyce was active in the Special Education Professional organizations, Schenectady ARC, a charter member of NYS Retarded Children Association, Exceptional Council, AAMD and she helped to organize the first Special Olympics in Schenectady, NY. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, Republican Club, Amsterdam High School Marching Rams and Band Booster Club, and an advocate for Animal Rights.

She was a member of the Amsterdam United Methodist Church in Amsterdam, NY and served on numerous church committees as well as taking on leadership roles such as a Trustee, Lay Leader, Pastor of Parish Relations and Leadership Council.

A private cremation service will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to The Montgomery County SPCA, 1007 NY-5S, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
