Joseph M. Constantine

Joseph M. Constantine Sr.

Joseph (Guiseppe) M. Constantine Sr., 94, of Tremont Street, Amsterdam, NY peacefully entered heaven on Friday, January 31, 2020.

Born in Amsterdam on August 16, 1925, he was the youngest son of Carmelo and Rose Pellicotti Constantine. Joe was educated in the Amsterdam School system, receiving an honorary High School Diploma from AHS in 2007. He was a graduate of the Hudson Valley Technical School on the GI bill.

Joe joined the United States Marines during World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. Following his service in the Marines, he worked hard to realize the American Dream of owning and operating his own business, Joe’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning sales and service, a business that continues to operate today. He was a hard working; generous man who always put his customers first, shared his technical knowledge with his sons and apprentices, and maintained an honest business in Amsterdam for 66 years. Joe recently received the Diamond Award for being an HVAC dealer for Carrier Corporation for over 60 years. He especially enjoyed hosting the annual family picnic on his birthday in August at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville with family and friends.

Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Rosary Society, Carmelites, Eucharistic Minister, Amvets, American Legion, and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

On October 11, 1953, Joe married Gilda Montuoro, who recently passed in October 2019. It was a wonderful union of 66 years. Joe is survived by one daughter, Linda Sawicki (Michael), five sons, Joseph Constantine Jr. (Julann), Anthony Constantine Sr. (Sandra), Matthew Constantine Sr. (Jenny), Christopher Constantine, and Stephen Constantine: eleven grandchildren, Jessica Mazzone (Eric), Joshua Sawicki, Elizabeth Nally (Luke), Rachel Schneider (Derek), Cherisse Constantine, Matthew Constantine Jr., James Constantine, Diana Constantine, Anthony Constantine Jr. (TommieAnn), Michael Constantine, and Christina Constantine: six great granddaughters, Kateri, Lucia, Teresa, and Cecilia Mazzone, Belle Nally, and Marla Sutton: three great grandsons, Declan Jennings, Anthony Constantine III, and Wesley Schneider, and brother-in-law Martin Greene. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins survive.

Joe was predeceased by his brothers; Anthony Constantine (Esther), Frank Constantine (Irene), Paul Constantine (Joanne), his sister Mary Constantine, infant sisters Maria and Johanna, and niece Rosemary Constantine.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Wednesday February 5, 2020 at 11:15 at St. Mary’s Church, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Calling hours are Tuesday February 4, 2020 from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Many thanks to Dr. Sheridan and the compassionate staff at St. Mary’s Hospital/Hospice and also Lisa F. of Angelica’s Angels
