Joseph J. Famia, 95 of Destefano Place, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Friday May 7, 2021 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam, NY October 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Frank and Julia Patitucci Famia.

Joe received his education in the Amsterdam school system. He retired from General Electric Company-Steam Turbine Division.

Joe was an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving as Fireman 1St Class on the U.S.S. Parks, cannon class destroyer escort in the Pacific Theater.

Joe was a former communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church and a former member of the St. Agnello Club, both in Amsterdam.

Joe is survived by his companion of many years, Olympia M. “Libby” Pantalone and three nephews.

Joe was also predeceased by one brother, Daniel Famia and two sisters, Rose Masaitis and Carmella DeGeorgia.

Relatives and friends are invited to a prayer service Wednesday morning May 12, 2021 at 11:00 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Memorial gifts in Joe’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
