Joseph Anthony Montagnino

Joseph Anthony “Yippy” Montagnino, 95 of Amsterdam passed away May 9, 2022 at home.

Born in Amsterdam on December 12, 1926, he was the son of the late Vincenzo James and
Concetta Lombardo.

Joe received his education in the Amsterdam school system.

Joe was an honorably discharged United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II serving from 1945 to 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations and Army of Occupation. He was assigned to ground support elements of the 475th Fighter Group.

Joe retired from the City of Amsterdam after 40 years as foreman of The Department of Sanitation. He was also a past president of AFSCME Local Union 1614 Amsterdam, NY.

Joe was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. He was also a former member of the Columbian Social Club .

Joe was married to Jeanette Blinsinger Montagnino on October 17, 1952. She predeceased him in death on April 11, 2016.

Joe is survived by one son, Vincent J. Montagnino (Pamela) of Amsterdam, two daughters, Michele M. Montagnino of Amsterdam and Joanne Korona (Roy) of Fort Johnson, NY; three grandchildren, Amy Beth Carter, Bryan Carter and Joseph Montagnino, one great grandson, Orion Carter, nieces,nephews, sister-in-law Nola Szypula, brothers-in-law, Gerald and David Blinsinger.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 11:30 at the Riley Mortuary,Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 12 noon by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis V.F. officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary from 9:00 to 11:30 prior to the service at the mortuary.

Memorial gifts in Joe’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Our Lady of Martyr’s Shrine, 136 Auriesville Road, Fultonville, NY 12072 or to Sarah Jane Sanford Home Activities Fund, 69 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
