John J. Howard, 79, of Tylutki Road, Town of Glen, passed away Friday January 20, 2017 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.
Born in Bronx, NY, on October 10, 1937, he was the son of the late John J. and Clara Carey Howard.
John received his education in the New York City School system, attending St. Simon Stock High School in Bronx and St. Albert’s Seminary in Middletown, NY.
After serving an Electrical Apprenticeship for New York Central Railroad, he went to work for New York Telephone as an investigator in the Security Department, retiring in 1990. John was also the owner of Echo Park Land, Timber and Cattle Company. Along with raising Hereford Beef Cattle for 25 years, John was also an AKA German Sheppard dog breeder for several years.
John was a honorably discharged United States Marine Corp veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1954 to 1957.
John was a member of the American Tree Farm Association, New York Forest Owners Association (NYFOA) and Cornell Cooperative Extension in Montgomery County.
John is survived by his wife, June M. (Mucci) Howard, two sons, Joseph Howard of the Town of Glen and John Howard of Bellingham, MA; two daughters, Joann Phelps and Joyel Curtis (Richard) all of the Town of Glen, 1 sister, Claire Iovino of the State of FL; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive.
John was also predeceased by 2 sons, Jackie Howard and James Howard, 2 brothers, Raymond and James Howard, and 3 sisters, Jean Kelly, Ellen Marrone and Margie Weixelbaum.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Interment will full military honors will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in John’s name may be made to Town of Glen Volunteer Fire Department, 134 Auriesville Road, Fultonville, NY 12072
