John F. Guagliardo, 90, of Pleasant Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday morning August 25, 2012 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam.
Born in Rotterdam Jct. NY; on July 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rosaria DiMaggio Guagliardo.
John received his education in the Rotterdam school system, Woestina School, in Schenectady County. He also graduated from Siena College with a Bachelors of Science in Economics.
John was a Sales Representative for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring in 1980. He was also a substitute teacher in the Amsterdam school system , where he held the position of President of the substitute teachers for many years.
John was a United States Army Veteran of World War II , Serving from 1942 to 1945 as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 94th Signal Division.
John was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary's Church. He was also an usher at the church for over twenty five years. John was Grand Knight for three years at Knights of Columbus Council 209 in Amsterdam. He was also an avid golfer and member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.
John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending precious time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Philimena Peters Guagliardo to whom he was married on August 28, 1949, two daughters, Marie Guagliardo - Day (Michael) of Latham, NY; and Patricia Brown (Stephen) of Scotia, NY. two grandchildren, Emma J. Hans and Alex Brown of Scotia, NY. One sister, Mary Cipriano of Scotia, NY. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
John was predeceased by three brothers, James, Michael and Samuel, and one sister, Carmela Frekany.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 11;00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY.
Calling hours are Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Riley Mortuary.
