John was very fond of travel, particularly in their motor home in which they spent most summers traveling the US and Canada including driving to and spending a summer in Alaska. John was an avid snowmobile enthusiast and a pioneer in the sport as early as the 1960's. We used to joke that my mother was a "winter widow" as he would be gone so much to snowmobile, primarily in the Adirondacks, but often taking trips to other regions such as Wyoming and Canada.
