John Chicoski

John J. Chicoski, Jr., 64 of Grandy Road, Fultonville, New York passed away Saturday August 17, 2013 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, New York.

Born in Suffern, New York on March 7, 1949, he was the son of the late John J. and Doris Stoll Chicoski Sr.

John was a graduate of Johnsburg Central High School in North Creek, New York.

He was employed as a machinist and retired in 1993 from Anderson Industries in the Town of Glen. John was also a deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and was only one of two deputies to serve on the Mounted Police Division in the county. He was also a member of the Sheriff’s Dive and Rescue teams.

John was a United States Army veteran of Viet Nam War, serving from 1969 to 1975.

John was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, New York. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, a life member of the V.F. W. Post 942 in Fonda, New York, Town of Florida Snowmobile Club, Lazy 8 R.C. Club and the New York State Snowmobile Association.

John was a hard working person who took pride in the many projects that he worked on and completed. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he fulfilled his lifelong dream of building his own log cabin.

John is survived by his wife, Jan Martuscello Chicoski to whom he married on January 30, 1999, two sons, T.J. Chicoski of the Town of Glen, and Kenneth Chicoski of Wells, New York, three grandchildren, Abigail, Kenny and Tayler Chicoski step daughters, Erin Tracy (Mark Leggiero), Lisa Bergh (Robert Caputo) step grandchildren, Patrick, Riley, DeShawn, Ryan and Kory. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in law also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 8:45 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, New York followed at 9:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 111 Third Avenue, Tribes Hill, New York.

Interment will take place at St. John’s in the Wilderness Cemetery, Stony Point, New York.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 at the Riley Mortuary.
