Joan L. Dicaprio

Joan L. DiCaprio, 84, formerly of Arnold Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Thursday April 1, 2021 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam on July 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Leona Halgas Conrad.

Joan received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.

Joan was employed for 38 years as a teacher’s Aide in the Greater Amsterdam School District.

Joan was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was also a member of the AMVETS Woman’s Auxiliary.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Richard DiCaprio on January 3, 1987. She is survived by one daughter, Darlene DiCaprio of Amsterdam, three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Andrew (Elizabeth) and Matthew (Hayley) Walrath, six great grandchildren, Aniszka, Oliver, Jackson, Anabelle, Ethan and David. Many nieces, nephews, brother and sister in law, William and Joanne DiCaprio.

Joan was also predeceased by her son, Ricky DiCaprio on November 27, 1983.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, April 6, 2021 at 11:00 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary from 9:30 to 11:00 prior to the funeral service.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
