Joan P. Albertin, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 7, 2024, with her daughters by her side. Not a minute will go by that they won’t miss her smiling face.

Joan was born in Amsterdam, NY on December 19, 1933 to the late Walter and Emma Garrick Weihe.

Joan graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School, Amsterdam, NY and went on to study at Bryant University, Smithfield, RI. 

On April 8, 1956, Joan married William “Bill” Albertin Jr. She and Bill owned and operated Florida Implements for many years. She retired from K.C. Canary as an accountant.

With her husband, Bill, she was a founding member of Liberty Enterprises and a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Amsterdam.

She and Bill enjoyed wintering at their home in Lake Placid, Florida and traveled extensively to Australia, New Zealand, Russia, every country in Europe,the Scandinavian Region, the Caribbean, Mexico, Panama and Canada. Along with foreign travels, she also enjoyed road trips, exploring 45 of the United States including Hawaii. She passed this passion for travel and history to her daughters. She had an uncanny ability to remember even the smallest of details on every trip she made. She would recall restaurants, towns, roads & Inns with clarity, even if she visited 30-40 years ago. Her daughters were always astounded. She also was a talented seamstress and could make anything from miniature bride dresses to upholstering furniture,

She is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Daniel) Carter, Valerie (Peter) Zabo, Paula (Tim) Purtell, and Lois (Jason) Guttenberg; grandchildren, Sheena (Jeremy) Bartman, Stacy (Bill) Lindsay, Rainy Carter, Rachel Zabo, Allie Zabo, Dayle Guttenberg, Griffin Guttenberg, Brian (Kayla) Purtell, Stephen Purtell, Patrick Purtell; great-grandchildren, Connor and Evan Bartman, Carter and Claire Lindsay and Kennedy Hill; Sister, Janet (Howard) Tieman; also several nieces and nephews from the Tiemann and Martin family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her son, Dayle Albertin and infant daughter, Theresa Albertin.

A Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joan's family from 9:00 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass.

The Rite of Committal will will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Memorial gifts in Mrs. Albertin's name may be made to Liberty Enterprises, 43 Liberty Drive, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
