Jamie Parillo

Jamie Furman Parillo, 56, passed away unexpectedly in Melbourne, Florida on August 17th.

She was born on June 19, 1957 and was the daughter of Richard Furman and Florence Furman (née Walek) of Amsterdam, New York.

She attended St. Mary’s School, and was a graduate of the Bishop Scully class of 1975.

While in high-school and college, Jamie worked summers at Cappie’s Ice-Cream for the DiCaprio family who she considered to be very dear friends. She attended SUNY Morrisville and the Florida Institute of Technology where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Management Science. She worked in Melbourne, FL at DBA Systems, Titan Corporation, L-3 Communications, and Lockheed Martin for all of her professional career.

She married Joseph Parillo from Amsterdam, NY on September 3, 1983. They built their first home together in Melbourne, and had a son, Salvatore Joseph Parillo on June 30, 1990.

Jamie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph on July 17, 1995, her Uncle David Furman, sister-in-law Virginia Furman, God-Mother Clara Buanno, God-Father Joseph Kowal, and confirmation sponsor Rosemary Dmysczwicz.

She is survived by her son Salvatore, 23 who is currently attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where he is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Music degree in Music Performance. She is also survived by her parents, Richard and Florence of Amsterdam, NY, her siblings, Richard Jr. of Amsterdam, NY, Thomas of Amsterdam, NY, Christopher (Nancy) of Frankfort, KY, Carol of Fonda, NY, and William “Spike” of Colonie, NY, her mother-in-law, Theresa Parillo Neville of Amsterdam, NY, sister-in-law, Sheila Konitzer of Amsterdam, NY, and Sheila’s son Vincent Zukas of Albany, NY, and eleven nieces and nephews.

Jamie adored her two nieces, Danielle and Betsey. Despite the miles, they kept in touch and made many happy memories together. She always said that growing up on Truax Road left her with many beautiful memories. She was her father’s shining star that dimmed too soon. Growing up, she was his personal yard assistant and pool keeper. They also had the tradition of packing her up for college and off they drove to get Jamie to her destination. Jamie had a knack of leaving him little notes in unexpected places when she wanted things like a mini-bike. It worked.

When Jamie’s husband passed away, the family always hoped she would move back to NY with her son to help lighten her load. That was not to happen. She loved Florida and loved her job. So she raised Salvatore mostly on her own. She made sure he got good grades, took music lessons, and had good people in his life. She provided him with all she could, and was so very proud of him and all of his accomplishments.

She ended every telephone conversation with “I love you”. We hope that she left this world knowing how very much we loved, cared, and worried about her. There are so many things that she said and did that will always make us laugh right thru our tears.

Jamie was a very special daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt. She will be missed.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on August 31, 2013 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY. Burial will take place after the mass at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mary’s School or to her son’s college fund. Checks should be made payable to Salvatore Parillo, and mailed to the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
