James J. Cuddy Jr., 86, formerly of Bartlett Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam,
Born in Little Falls, NY on October 10, 1935, he was the son of the late James J and Thelma M. Miller Cuddy Sr.
Jim was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute and was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church, both in Amsterdam.
He was a honorably discharged United States U.S Air Force veteran, A/2C, serving from 1953 to 1957. He was stationed on the Island of Okinawa at a radar site during the Korean Conflict.
In the early 60’s, Jim became a Washington, D.C. Police Officer. He was on duty during the funeral of President John F. Kennedy and watched the casket pass by.
Jim was an avid reader, who enjoyed history, specifically history of the Civil War. He also loved trout fishing with his family and friends in the beautiful Adirondack and Catskill lakes and rivers. Jim also enjoyed playing golf and he loved sharing these past times with his children.
Jim retired from the New York State Police - Fultonville Barracks and also worked for the NYS Capitol Police. He was a member of the New York State Police Benevolent Association and a founding member of The Irish American Club in Amsterdam.
Jim is survived by one son, John Cuddy of Hagaman, NY; two daughters, Erin Vicinanzo (Matthew) of Birmingham, AL; and Jamie Durfree (Jeremy) of Napa Valley, CA; one brother, Michael Cuddy (late Karen) of NYC and Morris, NY; his former wife, Carol Cuddy, one step-daughter, Lori Avery of DeLand, FL; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jim was also predeceased by his brother, John Cuddy and a stepson, Robbie Avery.
A Mass of Christian Burial, with military honors will be celebrated Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis V.F. officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.prior to the funeral mass.
Interment will be held at St. Johnsville, Cemetery., at the convenience of the family.
