James D. “Jerry” Ottati, 87, of Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY; with his family by his side.
Born in Amsterdam on September 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Antonio and Carmella Petrosino Ottati.
Jerry received his education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from St. Mary’s Institute in 1951.
Jerry was an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving his country from 1953 to 1955.
Jerry was co-owner of GO Oil Company in Fonda, NY.
Jerry served on the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors representing the former 6th Ward and 1st Ward until becoming Chairman.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Gowdie Ottati, four sons, Paul Ottati (Karen) of Hagaman, NY; James Ottati (Barbara) of Fort Johnson, NY; Michael Ottati (Maria) of Amsterdam, NY; and Mark Ottati (Michele) of Fort Johnson, NY; five stepdaughters, Karen Agresta and Marybeth Hoefs (Jay) of Amsterdam, Suzanne Nowak (Bob) of VA; Pam Kelly (Dan) of Halfmoon, NY and Danielle Jesudowich (Alex) of Cape Cod, MA; twelve Ottati grandchildren, Paul J., Ashli K., Cheyanne R., Ryan J., Christopher M., Megan V., Kevin L., Michela A., Morganne T., Mackenzie Q., Marlee C and Meleena S., four step- grandchildren, Alexandra and Madison Nowak and Sydney and Payton Hoefs, many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was also predeceased by one brother, Vito Ottati, seven sisters, Sophia Picciocca, Rafael Greco, Margaret DeRocco, Frances Genetempo, Jennie Greco, Grace Foster and Fannie Ottati.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11:30 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Rev. Paul Catena officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St Mary’s Church from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the Mass.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Memorial gifts in Jerry’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
