James C. Wickham Sr. 97, formerly of Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Wednesday morning June 16, 2021 at his home in Broadalbin, NY.
Born in Amsterdam on December 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Alden A. and Levantia L. Chadsey Wickham.
Jim received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
He was the owner of Ostwick Corporation in Amsterdam for many years, selling automotive, maintenance and janitorial supplies.
Jim was an Honorably Discharged United State Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving as Sergeant with the 56th Fighter Control Squadron from 1942 to 1946.
He was a member of the Robert Lee Walsh, American Legion Post 337 in Broadalbin, NY; Fulton County Antique Car Club and a former member of B.P.O.E Lodge 101 in Amsterdam.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Ethel M. Spraker Wickham March 5, 2017 and a son, James C. Wickham Jr., May 22, 2020 and two sisters, Doris Miller and Helen Walters.
He is survived by one son, Alan C. Wickham (Jeannette) of Broadalbin, NY; seven grandchildren, Gayle Green, Alan C. Wickham Jr. (Terry), Scott Wickham, Thomas Wickham (Amy), Jennifer and Kim Breault and Michael and Theresa Davis, four great granddaughters, three great grandsons and one great- great grandson. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service Friday, June 25, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Steadwell Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Jim’s name may be made to Robert Lee Walsh American Legion Post 337, No. Main Street, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
