Henry “Hank” Pawling died July 20, 2021 at the age of 98.
Born on January 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Henry and Josephine Southard Pawling.
He grew up in the village of Hagaman, NY; where he enjoyed playing baseball and ice hockey. In the 1930’s, his parents built a camp on Piseco Lake, where he spent many happy summers. After graduating from high school in 1941, at the age of 19, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in World War II on the island of Saipan.
Henry worked as a maintenance machinist for Mohasco in Amsterdam and Beech – Nut in Canajoharie, NY; retiring in 1987. Henry loved the outdoors, especially the Adirondacks, where he enjoyed hiking, canoeing, and cross country skiing.
Henry was a member of Calvary reformed Church in Hagaman.
In 1948, he married Helen Noel; they were married for 70 years before Helen’s passing in2018. Henry was also predeceased by a son, Hank in 1971 and a brother, William in 1989.
He is survived by 3 children, Anne Sargalis (James) of Broadalbin, NY; Peter Pawling (Gretchen) of Amsterdam, NY and Joan Pawling of Malta, NY; 2 grandsons, Nick Pawling of Amsterdam and Jon Sargalis of Chicago, IL; and one great granddaughter Gretta.
Private funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, 2021.
Interment will follow at Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY.
