Henry L. Collister Jr, 77, of Union Street, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Friday afternoon April 29, 2011 at Albany Veterans Administration Hospital.
Born in the Bronx, NY, on June 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Eleanore Allenger Collister Sr.
Henry received his education in the New York City school system. He was the proprietor of Adams Appliances in the Bronx until retiring and moving to Amsterdam.
Henry was a United States Army veteran, who served his country during the Korean Conflict with the 179th Infantry Regiment from 1952 to 1954 . He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, The UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Guarino Collister to whom he was married on December 2, 1960, two sons, Steven Collister (Michelle) of West Palm Beach, FL,; and Henry L. Collister III and his companion Linda Jones of Amsterdam, NY, two daughters, Lorraine Freeman of Port Charlotte, FL, and Diane Collister Temchuk (Bruce) of Miami, FL., one sister, Emeline Muller of Babylon LI, NY., five grandchildren and Ten great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Henry was also predeceased by a brother Frank Collister.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors at Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam on Friday morning at 11:00.
There are no calling hours.
