Gilda C. Simiele, 87, of Rexford, NY, passed away Monday afternoon September 1, 2014 at the Gateway House of Peace in Ballston Spa, NY.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Carmella Palledino Simiele.
Gilda was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam, class of 1945. She also graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1949 and received her Master of Arts Degree from New York University in 1951.
Gilda retired from Linton High School in Schenectady NY; as the Head of the Art Department. She also worked in the New York City school system for five years, taught summer classes in Mexico City and was the owner of Design Studio in Schenectady.
Gilda was a contributor of artwork to the Schenectady Museum Gallery Shop and “Departure” Gift Shop at the Albany International Airport. She also participated at Proctors Theater for nine years after her retirement.
Gilda is survived by her brother, Robert Simiele of Glenrock, New Jersey. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Michael Masterpolo (Bernie), Doreen Costner (Wayne), Michael Whitty (Nancy), Christine Riccio (Anthony) and Mark Simiele (Dana).
Gilda was also predeceased by her two sisters, Mary Masterpolo and Olga Whitty.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.
