Frank S. Villa, 94, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 5, 2021.
The son of the late James and Adeline Villa, Frank was born on April 2, 1927, in Amsterdam, NY. He graduated from Amsterdam’s Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1945, immediately after which he joined the U.S. Army. He completed his service as a member of the occupation forces in post-war Japan. Following his discharge from the Army in 1946, he graduated from Vermont Junior College and attended Syracuse University and UCLA.
Frank was employed by General Electric as a service sales engineer, specializing in the sale and service of equipment used in power plants on and for military installations. He retired after a 43-year career with GE that, over the years, crisscrossed the country, from Schenectady to Los Angeles as well as several points in between.Frank was actively involved in the Amsterdam South Side Veterans Association, GE Elfuns, Knights of Columbus and, long ago when his two boys were young in the 1970s, he served as the President of the National Little League in Albany. Frank was also an avid golfer. He was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
Frank was preceded in death by his older brothers, Salvatore and Joseph, and two other siblings, Francesca and Luigi, who died in early infancy. Frank is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marie Villa (née Ciotto), children, Francine Larson (Dr.Thomas Larson) of Madison, CT, Michael Villa (Ibis Klimicek) of Healdsburg, CA, and Robert Villa (Marlene Loria) of Rio Rancho, NM. Also surviving Frank are four granddaughters, Kelly Hunt (Rob Hunt), Anna O’Malley, Yasmin Villa and Sofia Villa, and three great-grandsons, Sebastian, Xander and Ryland Hunt. Also surviving Frank are his beloved brothers, Mario Villa of Amsterdam, NY, and Richard Villa of Colonie, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Saturday August 21, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY; with Rev. O. Robert De Martinis officiating.
Private interment will take place at Mt Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY.
It is respectfully requested that those attending be vaccinated for COVID, and that all CDC guidelines be followed, including face covering while attending the Mass.
