Francis A. “Boomer” Howlan III, 69 of North Broadalbin, passed away August 31, 2024 after a brief illness, with his son at his side.
Boomer was born in Amsterdam on June 19, 1955 to the late Francis A. “Dutch” and Marion Trzaskos Howlan.
He received his education in Amsterdam at St. Mary’s Institute and was a graduate of Bishop Scully High School Class of ‘73. From there he entered the workforce and was employed in a number of fields, and for many years as a truck driver with various companies until retiring from Teamsters Local 445.
Boomer was an exceptional athlete and enjoyed most sports, especially ice hockey, playing at the semi-professional level for several teams in the United States and Canada. His talents also contributed to an invitation to try out for the Detroit Red Wings farm system.
The one thing he loved more than anything in his retirement years was fishing. Boomer frequently enjoyed taking trips to Lake Ontario to fish for salmon with his cousin George. He never hesitated to invite anyone along with him!
In addition to his parents, Boomer is preceded in passing by his sister, Mary Kate Lomanto.
Boomer is survived by his son, Andrew (Marisa) Howlan and two grandchildren Gia and Jack Howlan, as well as an aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins.
