Elizabeth Wells

Elizabeth D. “Betty” Wells, 92, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away Thursday evening October 3, 2013 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Little Falls, New York on April 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Widzicka Morties

Betty received her elementary education in the Little Falls school system and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute, Class of 1939 in Amsterdam, New York.

Betty was employed as an Administrative Assistant and retired in 1993 from Amsterdam Urban Renewal. She also worked as secretary for John Hancock Insurance Company and Attorney Robert J. Sise. She was also employed at St. Mary’s Institute and the Amsterdam School District.

Betty was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a sustaining member of the St. Mary’s seniors.

Her husband John F. “Jack” Wells predeceased Betty on February 4, 2001.

Betty is survived by one daughter Jacqueline M. Sikorski (Fran) of, Amsterdam three sons, Thomas Wells (Kathy) of Tribes Hill, NY; Richard Wells (Mary Jo) of Amsterdam, NY and John “Jay” Wells (Nicole) of Burnt Hills, NY; six grandchildren, Jason (Lauren), Johnathan and Jeremy (Nicole) Sikorski , Jack and John Wells and Collins Wells, five great grandchildren, Jett, Jace, John, Kaylee and Audrey Sikorski, Sister-in-Law, Antoinette Wells. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Betty was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam New York followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery Fort Johnson, New York.

Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to7 at the Riley Mortuary.
