Edgar D. Holloway, 79, of Van Dyke Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam on December 6, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Marion Van Horne Holloway.
Edgar received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
He attended Cornell University then returned to the Town of Florida to own and operate Holloway Brothers Farms with his brothers and eventually his nephews (Christoper, Brian and John). Edgar also served many years as the assessor for the Town of Florida. He spent the last 20 years becoming a Real Estate Appraiser and operating Capital Appraisers with his son, Tim.
Edgar was a member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course for many years and at one time involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Montgomery County.
Edgar is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Welch Holloway at home, one son. Timothy J.Holloway (Corinne) of Amsterdam, NY; one daughter, Dawn Petruccione (Peter) of Saratoga Springs, NY; brothers and sisters, Schuyler Holloway (Wilda) of Amsterdam, Linda Kline (Jim) of Cooperstown, NY; Blanche Hawkins (Thane) of Minneapolis, MN; and Mark Holloway (Jerry Lynn) of Amsterdam, five grandchildren, Mara Harkins (Dan), Matthew and Emily Petruccione, Shea and Skye Holloway and one great grandson, Sonny Harkins. Brother-in-law, Tim Welch (Betty) and sisters-in-law, Gail Squillace and Kelly Welch. In addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins surviving with great memories of their Uncle Edgar.
Edgar was predeceased by an infant brother, John, brother, Robert Holloway and sister, Leticia Brown and her husband Erv, and brothers-in-law, David Squillace and Bernie Welch.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Saturday October 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY, with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the mass from 10:00 a.m.
Private Interment will take place at a later date.
