Dorothy Naple Jacobson, 100, of Wells NY, formerly of Amsterdam NY, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2022 at home with her loving family by her side.
She was born Dorothy Marguerite Huckans on February 9, 1922 in Gloversville NY, the daughter of Leonard and Ava L. (Varness) Huckans.
At age 16, Dorothy graduated salutatorian of the Gloversville High School Class of 1938. At 19, she received her Nursing Degree from Nathan Littauer School of Nursing in 1941.
Dorothy was employed as an RN at Amsterdam City and Amsterdam Memorial Hospitals and was also a Senior
Caseworker with Montgomery County Department of Social Services.
Dorothy was a parishioner and communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Wells NY and formerly of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam NY.
Dorothy was united in marriage to John P. Naple in 1946. John passed away in 1997. She subsequently married Ellis L. Jacobson in 2002. Ellis passed away in 2007.
Dorothy is survived by five sons: John (Linda) Naple of Amsterdam NY; Steven (Lisa) Naple of Broadalbin NY; Richard (Barbara) Naple of Saratoga Springs NY; William
(Susan) Naple of Lassellsville NY and Timothy (Susan Gaetano) Naple of Coronado CA; one daughter, Marie Naple of Wells NY; a gaggle of grandchildren and a bouquet of great
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by three sisters; Lenore DeGolyer (Victor), Rhea Jeanette Lanzara (Richard) and Evelyn Ferro (John) and one brother, Leonard “Sonny” Huckans.
There are no calling hours.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Friday morning, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam NY 12010, with Fr. Sony G. Pulickal officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.
