Donald George Durkin, 76, of Gloversville, NY, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Indian Lake, NY on February 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Robert and Rosella DeMarsh Durkin.
Don graduated from Johnsburg Central School in North Creek, NY in 1956. He retired from G.T. E. Telephone Company in 1992.
Don loved to read, was a gifted gardener and loved animals. He had many cats, dogs and horses over the years and at this time he leaves his two dogs, Patches and Sandy.
Don is survived by his son, Don Durkin (Patty) of Amsterdam, daughters, Kim Valik (John) of Johnstown, Darlene Plunkett of Amsterdam, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his “great buddy” John Henry Stewart, very special friend, Ginger Lent, nieces and nephews.
Don was a predeceased by a brother and sister in law, William and Dorothy Durkin and sister, Ione Haas.
It was Don’s request that there be no funeral services or calling hours.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium in Schenectady, NY.
Memorial gifts in Don’s memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to a charity of one’s choice.
