Dolores “Dolly” Twardzik, 81, of Romeyn Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Monday morning February 6, 2012 at Albany Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.
Born in Amsterdam, NY; on January 16, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Julia Zientek Gawron.
Dolly was educated in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School. She also attended Oneonta State College for two years.
She was employed as a secretary in the Amsterdam School District for many years.
Dolly was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a member of the Parent Teachers Association in Amsterdam Schools, the Century Club since 1964, and former Union Vice President for CSEA retirees, a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of Parents Without Partners for many years.
Dolly especially enjoyed her time as an usher at Saratoga Performing Arts Center for the Ballet, Orchestra and special events, such as Bruce Springsteen, John Denver, The Beach Boys and the Jazz Festival.
Her husband, Michael A. Twardzik to whom she married on April 26, 1953, passed away on August 9, 1971. Dolly is survived by two sons, Michael E. Twardzik (Cindy) of Mandeville, LA., and Steven L. Twardzik (Tina) of Schenectady, NY., two sisters, Roni Rocco Capraro of Camillus, NY and Mary Noyes (David) of Evergreen CO., two brothers, Richard Gawron (Fran) of Niskayuna, NY and Joe Gawron (Sharon-deceased) of Boise, ID., three grandchildren, Steven, Nicole and Daniel Twardzik. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Dolly was also predeceased by three brothers, Peter, Leonard and Edward “Patch” Gawron and three sisters, Sally Gawron, Olga "Connie" Perry and Irene Talmadge.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 10:15 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary
