Dennis Gregory Koller, 73, of 26 Wall Street, passed away Sunday evening January 24, 2016 at Wilkinson RHCF in Amsterdam.
Born on March 12, 1942 in Flushing, Long Island, NY; he was the son of the Late Gerard G. and Cecilia A. Barry Koller.
Dennis was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1960. He also attended Amsterdam School of Commerce and Fulton Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY.
Dennis graduated from the Albany Police Academy in 1970 and was one of the first neighborhood Police Unit Assignments in Albany’s south end. He also served on the Tactical Patrol Unit. He was last employed at the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia, NY, leaving due to a prolonged illness.
Dennis was a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church and most recently of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
Dennis was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209 and a Third Degree Knight with Monsignor William A. Browne Assembly in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Irish American Club, Mohawk Valley Audubon Society, Tribes Hill Fish and Game and Reid Hill Fish and Game Clubs.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on the Great Sacandaga in Edinburg, NY.
Dennis is survived by one brother, Kenneth A. Koller, one sister, Rosemary Nutting Snyder (Dave), nephew, Kristopher G. Nutting, niece, Elizabeth A. Nutting and her companion Nicholas, sister in law, Mary Koller, cousins and many friends.
Dennis was also predeceased by his brother, Gerard “Jerry” Koller in 2012.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
